Surbiton Easter Open 2014

Kevin Carter writes:

Samir Patel won the Surbiton Easter Open, with six wins from six games.
On paper Jonathan Kirby was his main rival, and so it proved, since Jonathan won all his games except that against Samir.

The field was a little weaker than most years, with the likes of Burch, Dawson, etc. all unable to play. The revelation of the tournament was Howard Cheyne, who has a handicap of 2.5 but played to the standard of a scratch player. With more to come it is to be hoped that in the future he might devote more time to this game and less to others. We certainly need a younger intake - there were several retired players with creaking joints and handicaps of about scratch who were playing as if they were 2.5!
