Sunday, 8th March saw the last of the club's Winter One-balls and this one was also the club's heat for the Charity One-ball Championship.
We had fine weather and 24 players. Howard Cheyne and Gary Bennett powered into an early lead. Howard faded but Gary remained unbeaten for five rounds and the only player who could topple him was David Mooney. After a great hit-in David set-off on a two-ball break and built what seemed like an unassailable lead. However, Gary never knows when he is beaten and clawed back into the game until they were both for Rover. An error from David let him in and Gary won the tournament.
So, Gary took the club one-ball prize. Gary, David and also Johanna Duffy - playing out of her skin, to take third - all qualified for free places in the 10th May final.
This heat raised £153 for this year's One-ball charity: Bowel Cancer UK. Thank you to all who took part or donated.
