The John Spiers Award.

Don Beck writes:

Howard Cheyne has won the John Spiers award for most improved GC player. This is awarded by The Croquet Association to the player who has made most significant improvement over the last 12 months. Howard only joined Surbiton Croquet Club 3 years ago, and already has emerged as one of the leading players of the game. He continues to improve and has now reached no.8 in the uk rankings. Along the way he has collected "Open" tournaments and contributed to the success of the Surbiton and Surrey gc teams (both winners of the national titles).

His modesty and obvious enjoyment of the game has made him a popular member of any team. A formidable opponent he always plays the game with a smile on his face , even on those rare occassions when he is not winning.

John Spiers, the sponsor , wants to see our younger players develop to meet the standards set by the Egyptians. Howard is at the head of a strong group, truly a worthy winner of this award. We look forward to seeing him collect many more titles and awards in the years to come.

George Noble adds:

We can see Howard collect his award at the CA AGM at Hurlingham on Saturday 16 October
