Surbiton beat Cheltenham Croquet Club at Cheltenham on Saturday 7th August.
The two teams were well matched in terms of ranking, but after Cheltenham came out on top of a high quality doubles match and David Mundy produced a rather unexpected straight triple, things looked bleak. However, David Mooney played well to avoid a morning whitewash and keep Surbiton in the match. Samir Patel's afternoon win over Dave Foulser was a 7th turn error-free affair, and Chris Farthing beat Chris Williams with a tidy triple, but not before both had traded errors (more than once!) getting their second breaks started. That left the final two games of which we needed one to take the match. Both were close, with many chances for both sies, but Andrew Johnson held his nerve to narrowly beat Brian Fisk.
