John Brooks wins the Wharrad Trophy

John Brooks wins the Wharrad Trophy On Wednesday 30th September, 10 members competed in the fourth annual hi-bisquer (18+) competition – the prize at stake being the Wharrad Trophy which is named in honour of the Club's late President and founding member, Lionel Wharrad. A Swiss format was used with each of the ten entrants playing four handicapped 14 point games in which they each received the full bisque allowance to base 6 adjusted for a 14 point game. The weather was very pleasant and mercifully the lawns were running considerably slower than of late.

Thanks to the very pleasant late September weather and the players' compliance with (at times) brutal time management, all four rounds of the Swiss were completed in time for Hazel Kittemaster, our President, to present the Wharrad Trophy to John Brookes, the only one to win all four of his games. Iden Coleman and Sam Martin each won three games and therefore (for the record) finished joint second.
