Golf Croquet B-level Tournament.

Don Beck writes:

This year the manager had the task of running a tournament with 13 entrants. With players travelling from Ramsgate and the Isle of Wight it was important that all players had enough, but not too much, croquet. We played without time limits and the firm hoops , lack of rabbit-runs, and high temperatures led to some lengthy games.

After 7 rounds we had 4 players Richard Harris, Nick Furse, Tony Farthers, Bob Pritchard, each with one loss and a hoop shoot-out resulted.

Thanks to Nick , the winner, for his summary below.

"Don had specially reset hoop 1. Then:

  1. The four of us (who had all lost only one game each during the day) were each given four balls and asked to try and run hoop 1 from 7 yards. None of us succeeded.
  2. Don admitted to reducing the width of the hoop (On retrieving a ball from the jaws, the gap appeared to be about 1/64".) and invited all four of us to shoot again with four balls each but this time from 6 yards. Two of us succeeded once each.
  3. The two of us each tried again from 6 yards with 4 balls each but without success.
  4. We tried again from 6 yards with four balls each but this time each of my last two balls ran the hoop. My opponent again failed to run the hoop with any of his four balls."
