This season's team of Graham Brightwell, Mary Knapp, David Mooney, Ian Parkinson and Bob Stephens won the Mary Rose Trophy for the first time.
On a very blustery and cold day at Wrest Park they beat Pendle & Craven 4-3. Graham & Mary struggled to find their form but Bob & David both won their morning singles & David was the first to win his afternoon match. The score was 3-3.
Everything rested on the final match between Bob & Liz Wilson. Bob had a slender lead, rover & peg v.penult & peg but Liz had the innings. To Surbiton's delight Bob hit in.He ran rover, failed to peg out the front ball but was able to peg out his other one, and oppo's ball. Liz missed a 15 yard shot & Bob then pegged out for the Surbiton victory.
