In advance of the MacRobertson Shield, the most prestigious event in croquet, Surbiton played a friendly against New Zealand on 22 July 2026. The format was three doubles games, followed by two rounds of singles. Surbiton started well and should have won two of the doubles before lunch, sadly falling just short in both. After lunch New Zealand showed their class and finished with an 11-4 win, but Surbiton were not disgraced, with fine wins for Stephen Mulliner (two), Dave Maugham and Nick Parish.
New Zealand kindly presented us with a plaque to mark the occasion, which can be seen hanging in the clubhouse.
