Easter AC Handicap Tournament

Previous Winners

The Surbiton GC Championship saw some thrilling games this weekend when 24 players from the UK, Spain and Norway battled it out in brilliant sunshine with fast lawns and 0.8mm hoop clearance. Reg Bamford (Surbiton and -6 handicap) beat Mark Avery 7/3, 7/4 in a sparkling final.

All the games were closely fought with some people playing 16 games over the 2 days leaving little time to enjoy the top notch catering. The imminent departure of a plane stopped play in the Shield Final after Keith Aiton (Nottingham) and Filiberto CanĂ³ tussled 6/7, 7/6 while Simon Carter (Dulwich) beat Konstantin Yudintsev (Sussex County) 7/6, 6/7, 7/3. Liz Farrow (Sussex County) won the Plate Block with an unbeaten 7 games and net hoops of 22 with Neil Humphreys (Chichester and number 22 on the seeding list) as runner up.

It is believed that this GC competition achieved a first that may be of interest to AC players. Reg Bamford and Keith Aiton, arguably amongst the top in the AC world, played each other for the first time in GC.
