Twenty-five turned out for this year's heat. It was won by Tony Elliott, a visitor from Ealing, who won his first five games and was declared the winner before his sixth, which he duly lost to new member Ignacio Gross. Ignacio is a most promising GC player having moved from Madrid to his employer's City branch. Once he had got the hang of one-ball he displayed great accuracy and sound tactics, belying his handicap.
Our heat - one of about 30 expected this year - raised £215 for this year's charity: the British Heart Foundation. Because of this fine amount we are entitled to send three for free places in the May Final. Since there was a four-way tie for second place, it was not easy to identify the other two qualifiers and a 'quality of opposition' tie-break was employed. By this means it was established that Ignacio and Judy Perry qualified, while Philip Davies and Sue Pendry unfortunately lost out.
Chris and George laid on a splendid plethora of Indian snacks for lunch. What a shame we were a day too early to wash it down with a beer or two....
